Understanding Heat Stress: Join our Webinar

What is heat stress?

Heat stress occurs when animals struggle to maintain an optimal body temperature due to extreme environmental conditions. In most cases, heat stress is caused by excessively high temperatures. Understanding the issues, mechanisms, and strategies to adopt is crucial to making livestock more resilient to this problem. In monogastric animals, the mechanism of heat stress is complex but results in:

  • Electrolyte imbalance
  • Weakening of intestinal health
  • Increase in oxidative stress

Animal performance is therefore degraded and directly impacts farm profitability. A study in 2003 estimated the cost of heat stress to be up to $481 million for monogastric animals in the United States (St-Pierre et al., 2003).

Good management of farming practices can help limit the effects of heat stress (optimal ventilation, access to fresh water…), but nutritional leverage can also play a crucial role.

During the Phosphea Digital Week event, our technical team has decided to organize a webinar that highlights nutritional approaches to manage heat stress.

If you want to learn more about this topic, feel free to register for our webinar titled “Heat Stress Issues: Nutritional Strategies in Monogastric Animals.

It will be led by Dr. Roger Davin, Senior Consultant & Poultry Product Manager at Schothorst Feed Research, and Jetsabell Gutierrez Vallejos, Poultry Product Manager at Phosphea.

Depending on your availability, we offer three registration slots. This webinar will be available in English and Spanish.
