Our Story

Discover phosphea through the years

Phosphea is a subsidiary of the Groupe Roullier, an independent family-owned company founded in 1959 in Saint Malo (France). Our 10,000-strong workforce operates in France and throughout the world in various business lines, including plant and animal nutrition, food processing, algology, renewable energy and plastics processing.

1976

The Groupe Roullier starts its feed phosphates activity in France

The feed phosphates division is born with the construction of the Groupe Roullier first feed phosphates plant in Saint-Malo (France).

1979

First exportation abroad

The division begins operations overseas. First in the UK, then in Ireland, followed by other Western European countries.

1985

First international sales of MDCP

Monodicalcium phosphates is offered to export markets.

1994

Launch of Magnesium Phosphate MAG26

The business unit adds MAG26 to its portfolio. This Magnesium Phosphate is highly absorbables by the ruminants and easy to use in premix and mineral production.

1997

Creation of TIMAB Industries division

Sales teams moved to Dinard (France) in the new headquater of phosphate division now called TIMAB Industries

2002

Operating in Europe and beyond

New markets are reached out beyond Europe as operations start in North Africa and Asia.

2003

First plant is Tunisia: Gabès 1

The company opens its first production plant in Gabès. This new site allows the company to develop its MCP production and to become a major player in feed phosphates.

2004

Fast international expansion

The sales in 13 additional countries in 2004, including countries in the Middle-East, speed us the growth.

2005

Ever more global

The fast pace of international expansion is maintened with the opening of 12 new markets in 2005, including India and South Korea.

2007

Second plant in Tunisia

Gabès 2 plant is built and opened, further increasing the production of high quality MCP and DCP.

2008

Over 100 coworkers supporting our development

2008 is a year for the company as its staff numbers go beyond the symbolic 100 mark to reach a total of 103.

2009

Across the Atlantic

2009 is the year of Latin America. Timab Industries becomes Timab Phosphates and begins sales in Central and South America.

2013

Innovating with NEOPHOS

The company launches NEOPHOS, its first calcium-sodium phosphates. This innovation, supported by the expertise of the Saint-Malo plant, offers many nutritional benfits.

2013

On all five continents

The buisness is expanded across the world through the first sales in Oceania. 2013 also marks the opening of the office in the United States of America.

2014

No. 1 in Europe

Timab Phosphates acquires the feed phosphates activities of a Spanish company. With two additional production capacity is significantly increased, leading the company to European number one position.

2015

Heading for one hundred countries

In 2015, the company operates in more than 100 countries on 5 continents. It is world no. 2 on the feed phosphates market with over 270 employees.

2016

Timab Phosphates becomes Phosphea

Phosphea, a new name for a global expert and innovator. This is the beginning of a new chapter in the company continuing story of providing high quality phosphate solutions for healthy and efficient animal nutrition.

2017

Integration

Integration of feed phosphate activities in Prahovo, Serbia.

2020

Integration

Integration of calcium carbonate activities in Billy, France and lithothamnium calcareum, salt, sodium bicarbonate and urea activities.

2022

Integration

Integration of feed phosphate and salt activities in Imbituba, Brazil.

2023

Integration

Integration of new products (iron sulfate) and activities (industry, water treatment) based on our current product portfolio. 

Industrial applications, humain nutrition and environment

Phosphea has been active in the industrial applications market since 2020, with its monoammonium phosphate (MAP), used in particular in fire retardants. In 2023, Phosphea took on board NUWEN’s Human Nutrition, Industry and Environment applications, a new development for Phosphea in this market segment. Iron sulfate supplemented the industry range with applications in the cement industry. Salt pellets and Timalite are used for water treatment applications. Finally, ascorbic acid and Saltwell were added to the human nutrition product range.
